TITANIUM DIOXIDE CREDITS

In 2004 the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic proved the effectiveness of Titanium Dioxide in reducing Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), bacteria and other air pollutants.
Regarding the classification as a carcinogenic substance, the Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/217 of 4 October 2019 of the European Commission states that:
“The classification as carcinogenic by inhalation applies only to mixtures in the form of dust containing ≥ 1 % titanium dioxide particles in the form of, or incorporated into, particles with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 10 μm”.

There is therefore no evidence that titanium dioxide used in aqueous and vaporised solutions causes harm to humans.
Titanium dioxide is also recognised by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe).

As reported in a study on titanium dioxide nanoparticles (Antimicrobial Effect of Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles) “TiO2 is a thermically stable and biocompatible chemical compound with high photocatalytic activity and has shown good results against bacterial contamination“.
The use of titanium dioxide as a photocatalyst in the disinfection of surfaces, air and water has begun to arouse interest following several studies showing that once photoactivated, this substance is capable of decomposing numerous organic and inorganic substances that cause air pollution.
The photosensitive TiO2 molecule, affected by light (natural or artificial) and in contact with air humidity, is activated and accelerates the decomposition of microorganisms and pollutants found in the environment, thanks to an oxidation process.
Thanks to this process, titanium dioxide can transform organic substances harmful to humans, such as microbes, viruses, spores, fungi, molds and numerous other pollutants and pathogens, into harmless molecules such as water (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2) and inorganic salts.

The intervention is carried out by one of our Biosafety Environmental Technicians in possession of the appropriate certificate and registered with an Italian Association of Toxicologists and Environmental Technicians (ATTA).

THE TECHNOLOGY
Titanium dioxide is an innovative technology that, thanks to the presence of light and air, can maintain its effectiveness over time. The titanium dioxide-based solution we use is 100% natural (contains no chemical additives) and is the latest generation photocatalytic solution. It guarantees the elimination of up to 99.98% of microorganisms such as: bacteria, viruses, animal allergens, mites, molds, fungi. It eliminates bad odours and polluting substances, making environments deodorized and disinfected. It is the ideal complement to considerably prolong the effectiveness of a shock disinfection carried out by saturation of the environment.

INTERACTIONS
Titanium dioxide disinfection we perform is based on “no touch” technology: it does not therefore include the mechanical removal of dirt from surfaces. In order to increase the effectiveness of the disinfection we always suggest carrying out the mechanical cleaning of the rooms before carrying out the titanium dioxide treatment.

As per our operational protocol, our environmental technician lays the titanium dioxide-based product through a sprayer, following precise movements, in order to guarantee the correct laying of the product.

THE CARE OF THE OPERATOR
Our technicians work exclusively protected by certified PPE such as: professional masks, gloves, shoe covers, disposable coveralls. We have chosen to provide our operators with disposable personal protective equipment in order to avoid the risks of cross-contamination of environments, which might occur due to interventions carried out in different structures during the same day.

Personal protective equipment is disposed of directly by our technicians, so the customer’s environment is completely sanitized and free of toxic residues.
