HYDROGEN PEROXIDE DISINFECTION

Hydrogen peroxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H2O2.

Hydrogen peroxide, depending on its concentration,  is used in various sectors, ranging from beauty (to lighten hair, nails and teeth) to medical care (as a skin disinfectant, for example), to the decontamination of surfaces, water and air.

Pure hydrogen peroxide is a colourless, aqueous, corrosive liquid that gives off a characteristic pungent odour. For these reasons, it is never used pure but always in an aqueous solution. Commercially available products can be based on hydrogen peroxide mixed with water only (the ones we use) or with different catalysts (in some cases, however, the latter leave residues).

According to the harmonised classification and labelling (CLP00) approved by the European Union, this substance, depending on the concentration used, can be highly toxic to humans (if inhaled or ingested), can cause serious skin and eye injuries, is highly corrosive and can cause fires and explosions.

For all these reasons, this substance must be handled by experienced personnel, protected with certified PPE.

The products and hydrogen peroxide machines we offer for disinfecting environments are scientifically tested and certified. The hydrogen peroxide stabilized solutions we use have a H2O2 concentration of less than 8%, a quantity that guarantees total disinfection of the environment in a completely safety way.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE CREDITS

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is recognised by numerous national and international organisations as a suitable substance for surface disinfection.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Italian ISS (Superior Institute of Health) claim that it is an active product against the Coronavirus SARS-Cov-2.

As reported in the Italian Ministry of Health Circular 19/2020: “Human viruses such as SARS coronavirus (not demonstrated on SARS-CoV-2) can “survive” on hard surfaces for up to nine days; disinfection of surfaces with solutions of 0.1% sodium hypochlorite or 62-71% ethanol or 0.5% hydrogen peroxide are effective after one minute of exposure”.

The ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) approves hydrogen peroxide as a biocide in the EEA (European Economic Area) and/or Switzerland for: human hygiene, disinfection, veterinary hygiene, food and animals feeds, drinking water, products storage.

Lastly, there are other credits: the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) includes hydrogen peroxide in the list of surface disinfection products that are effective against viruses and coronaviruses.

THE DISINFECTING ACTION OF H2O2

Products based on hydrogen peroxide stabilized are used for the disinfection of environments.
To disinfect, hydrogen peroxide uses the oxidising power of oxygen, stabilising it with water.

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidant with a biocidal action. Its decomposition produces the hydroxyl free radicals (OH-) responsible for transforming the chlorine present in the membranes of microorganisms (chemically stable) into active chlorine, generating an oxidation process that damages the lipidic membranes, DNA, RNA and proteins of viruses, bacteria and pathogens, not only causing their destruction but also limiting the possibility of their reformation.

Once the disinfecting action is complete, hydrogen peroxide decomposes into water and oxygen.

The solutions we use and propose have the advantage of not containing additives: they are also suitable for feeding areas and surfaces in contact with food, are 100% biodegradable and do not leave toxic residues in the environment.

THE ADVANTAGES OF USING THIS TECHNOLOGY

If the environmental disinfection is carried out by trained personnel and with professional and certified machinery, hydrogen peroxide is a substance:

BIOCIDE
It eliminates up to 99.9%* viruses, bacteria, mites, molds, fungi, spores, yeasts and pollens.

NATURAL
It contains no chemical additives.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
It leaves no toxic residues and has zero polluting power.

SAFE
It does not corrode surfaces and after the treatment is not harmful to humans and animals.

* The machinery we use atomises the particle of hydrogen peroxide to such a small size that it can potentially disinfect up to Log6 (99.9999%).

HOW HYDROGEN PEROXIDE DISINFECTION WORKS

Hydrogen peroxide disinfection is performed by atomising (spraying) the substance in indoors (air and surfaces), outdoors (surfaces) and A.T.U. (Air Treatment Unit) with professional hydrogen peroxide machines: sprayers, aerosolizers and atomizers.

The hydrogen peroxide is atomized into particles of variable size, depending on the equipment used. The particles emitted by the atomizer can have a size between 0.15 micron (the professional machinery we propose and use) and 30 micron or more.

The finer the atomisation of the particle, the greater the possibility of reaching all recesses, even the hardest to reach, without corroding or damaging delicate materials or electronic circuitry.

Once the air saturation is reached, the nozzle ends its activity. In order to reuse the room, it is necessary to wait the time required for hydrogen peroxide to convert back into oxygen (approximately 15/20 minutes minimum, or more, depending on the surface of the area treated).

OUR METHODOLOGY FOR DISINFECTING ENVIRONMENTS

Our operational methodology depends on (and adapts to) all the subjects and materials involved in each and any intervention:

THE OPERATORS
The disinfection activity is carried out by professional operators, who hold the certificate of Environmental Technician in Biosafety and are members of the ATTA (an Italian Association of Toxicologists and Environmental Technicians).

THE TECHNOLOGY
The atomizers or aerosolizers we propose contain very advanced technologies: the microparticles dispensed have a size of 0.15 microns and allow to achieve disinfection up to Log6 level (99.9999). The sprayers we deal with are very powerful and safe, for use in environments with very high ceilings. All products are certified and tested in many kinds of environments: sanitary, food, industrial, services and residential sectors.

INTERACTIONS
We perform hydrogen peroxide decontamination using a “no touch” technology. In order to maximize the results of the intervention we recommend a preliminary mechanical cleaning of the rooms to be treated.

THE CARE IN THE PREPARATION
The intervention is planned on the basis of the characteristics of the environments to be treated and the client’s needs. The optimal calculations and timing are subsequently confirmed or perfected in situ.

THE CARE IN THE EXECUTION
The operating protocol followed by one of our environmental technicians is divided into phases, in order to maximise the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide disinfection, regardless of the technician carrying out the activity or the characteristics of the environment to be treated.

THE CARE OF THE OPERATOR
We provide our environmental technicians with certified PPE (Personal Protection Equiment such as disposable coveralls, professional masks, shoe covers, gloves) in order to protect their health and to avoid possible contamination of the environment (cross contamination).

TREATMENT AFTER THE INTERVENTION
Disposable PPE is disposed of by our technician, the customer’s environment is completely disinfected, free of toxic residues and without “operational waste”.

THE TECHNICAL REPORT
At the end of the intervention, our technician draws up the technical report of the intervention containing photos of the activities carried out and the results of the sampling analysis carried out in the pre and post disinfection phases, analysed by our expert using professional instruments or by an accredited laboratory.

You will be able to consult at any time all the documentation related to the intervention on our portal in your personal area.

In addition to this solution, we offer technologies for environmental decontamination with ozone, hypochlorous acid and titanium dioxide.
